Dillavou Christmas

Four generations.

Lola and Gus were good buddies again this trip.

Loving the Iowa snow.

Gus helping daddy and Papa clear the driveway with his new little shovel.

Nothing like a cookie for breakfast on Christmas morning.

Enjoying the presents that Santa left. Luckily he found his way to Iowa and left the kids some presents (even though Gus insists he was on the naughty list).

Santa ate the cookie and drank the apple juice (Gus thought that Santa would want juice rather than milk). Gus was amazed!

Opening presents on Thursday at the Dillavou family Christmas.

Gus loves Toy Story.

A Christmas Story

Anxiously awaiting her turn to see Santa!

We took the kids to Bass Pro Shop's Winter Wonderland to see Santa. While we waited, there were several little crafts available for the youngsters to make.

All Gus wanted to do was to see Santa. He was not really interested in much else.

But eventually he gave in and had a little bit of fun.

He looks so much like Ralphie from "A Christmas Story" that we had to try to get a picture of him holding the gun (ya know, the Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time).

"You'll shoot your eye out, you'll shoot your eye out!"

And finally, the moment we waited 2 hours for...

All Kitties Go To Heaven

Chewing on Mommy's shoes.

His first day home with us, April 5, 2005.

RIP Feb. 10 2005 to Dec. 13 2010

Goodbye Buster. It has been fun little Busteroo. Kansas City would have never been the same had you not been there for daddy and I. Buster moved with us to three different homes over the last 6 years. We loved him very much, and he loved us (although he was not that fond of anyone besides us!). We remember well the first time we saw Buster, a cute tiny furry ball of fire. Buster was so adorable when we picked him out at the shelter in the spring of 2005. He stood out among the other kittens in the kennel, almost as if he was crying, "Pick me, pick me!" So how could we resist? We brought him home and named him Buster Godzilla Dillavou. As he got older and older (and bigger and bigger!), it became clear that he was not a lap cat by nature, but loved to be in close proximity of us (so as not to miss anything I suppose!). Buster and Josh developed a special bond right away. He was our first child and although his rank changed as we added real children to our family, Buster was always important to us. Buster even has a babybook, complete with immunization records, that chronicles his first three years of life. This is why the last few weeks have been so hard. As I blogged about a week or so ago, Buster had stopped using his liter box for some time. I feel so guilty about the anger I had started to feel toward him, especially now knowing that he had a medical condition. Then we noticed on Saturday that he was limping, dragging his tail, did not want to be around us and had stopped eating for several days. Josh picked him up last night and he seemed to be 'leaking' as if he had no control of his bladder. Josh took him to the vet this morning and the prognosis was not good, his bladder was very hard and obstructed, possibly into his kidney, so rather than possibly drawing it out and putting a lot of money into a treatment plan that was not necessarily going to work, we decided to take his pain away from him. He is much happier and no longer hurting. We will miss you Buster.

Amazing Christmas Card Deal!

So, a friend on Facebook posted this deal in her status a few days ago, and is it awesome. The online coupon code expires on December 12, but you can get 60 cards for 4.90 plus tax with NO shipping charges. I think my total was $5.30 or something. Dirt Cheap. You create a very brief user account, you select a 4 x 8 card size, make your card, select 60 as your quantity, and then at checkout enter the code 50cards, and that's it. Easy. And Josh thought the card was awesome (especially for the price).

Here is a better look at my card (the one in our blog header is blurry cause I stole it from the website):

I just had to pass along this deal. If you have been procrastinating like me, this is the deal for you.

Playing Together

It is so much fun to watch these two play together. Hazel LOVES laughing at Gus, and Gus LOVES to make her laugh. I can't wait to see them playing and laughing together more and more as she gets older. I love being a mommy!

Long Saturday

Buster has been absolutely horrible lately. Gus has a had a few accidents over the last several weeks and if Buster smells it, he pees and poops everywhere. When we got back from Thanksgiving last Sunday night, he had pooped and peed EVERYWHERE in the house (except of course in his litter box) over the 6 days that we were gone in Iowa. Multiple times in every room he could get into. He had even climbed on top of the microwave and pooped all over it and peed on the top of it, which then leaked into it; it had to be thrown away. I feel like I am in the year 1930 without a microwave all week (the new one was shipped Thursday so hopefully it arrives soon). So, this kennel is his new home. Even today when we let him out for awhile, when Gus had an accident, Buster within 10 minutes had pooped in four different rooms. It is disgusting. It is almost intolerable. And if Buster doesn't figure out how to cope with us pottytriaining Gus and eventually Hazel, he will be our pet no more. I am so fed up with the smell of kid pee, poop, and puke, and cat pee and poop, that I could just scream.

As Gus said when he saw this picture, "Messy gurrrrrl!"

"These. Look. So. Yummy."

Gus was upstairs alone for a few minutes and when I went to check on him, he had taken his step stool from the bathroom, moved it to the tree, and was taking down all the candy canes (that I had strategically hung just out of his reach).

Gus wearing baby Parker's booties and cap. Silly boy.

Huuuuuuuge smile!

What a funny face!

Santa was at Walmart this morning. It was your typical Walmart Santa. Sitting on 12 packs of pop. Tatoo sleeves peeking out from under a dingy white long sleeved T shirt. Regardless, Gus did really good for his first Santa experience, he loved the free candy cane and told Santa what he wanted. That's all that matters :)

A Very Merry Christmas

Not a great picture, but you can get a sense of the chaos that is our life. Gus running around in his underwear, Hazel screaming inconsolably, the house an awful mess, fun fun...

But eventually Gus did get the hang of hanging ornaments.

And eventually Hazel was content with playing with her little lotion bottle.

What a beautiful tree (well except for the bottom heavy branch where Gus insisted ornament after ornament should be placed)... This may be the last year for the pencil tree, but it does fit nicely in our very tiny living room.
Tis the season everyone! It's December!

McCollom Thanksgiving

Hazel had her first Thanksgiving meal! She loved the ham and mashed potatoes.

Parker enjoyed a little snack of red sweater vest (I think he liked the turkey and stuffing too!).

Gus and Parker ate at the kid table. They were so cute!

Keeping his eye on the prize (grandma's pumpkin desert with whip cream!).
