Girls Girls Girls

This weekend Nama and Papa D visited (and brought Avery with them); Trish and Kacy and Andi came to visit also. Here are Avery and Kacy tailgating before the Royals game on Saturday.

Gus downing his third juice box before the game. He loved them!

The kids coloring before the game.

At the game.

Kacy.

Avery.

Andi.

That's a long way down there daddy!

Gus was overall great at the game- until, of course, you asked him to pose in a picture.

Girls girls girls. We made necklaces and bracelets this morning before everyone left.

If you look closely, you can see our first 'crayon on the wall' experience. There is a purple "Z" in my entry way now.

Bath, Buster and a Bug

Gus loves when daddy is home to give him a bath and put him to bed. Lately daddy has had to work nearly 60 hours a week and usually until after Gus's bedtime. This weekend Gus and daddy got to catch up a little (although daddy did work from 6am-4 pm on Saturday!).

This puppy was a bath toy of Josh's when he was a little boy, so it is a special one for Gus.

Super Hawkeye fan. We almost have him singing the fight song- no joke!

Trying to fill Daddy's shoes; he has a little ways to go :)

A boy and his kitty

We have caught a little bug in the Dillavou home this weekend. We all three have colds and some of us have sore throats (Josh), temperatures (me), headaches (Josh) and diarrhea (me). We can't tell exactly what Gus is feeling, but he is really whiny and refuses to eat, so his belly must hurt a little. He has hardly eaten all weekend, but is drinking lots of fluids and still playing and trying to make the best of it. I have been checking and he has had no temperature yet. Josh is even so achy and congested that he decided not to play in his flag football game tonight. We have all three been taking some medicine and are doing okay- we are all still able to function, so don't worry about us yet. Hopefully this week we all get better. This just reminds me that I need to call this week and get a flu shot scheduled for Gus. He doesn't go to the Dr. until November, and that is just too long to wait.

Messy Boy

Gus last week, the messiest I think I have ever seen him.

Tonight before bed, when I asked Gus where his head was.

Veeeery sleepy, just before bed, laying on the landing.

When I asked him if he was ready for nite-nite, Gus started crawling up the stairs to his room.
So I must tell a great story about Gus (and how smart he is getting of course- the mommy in me can't resist)... After supper tonight, I got Gus out of his highchair and smelled a very stinky diaper, so I asked him if he was poopy. He said, "pooopoooo" and nodded (ever since we bought him a potty book last week he loves to say pooopoooo and peeeepeeee). I asked him if he needed a new diaper, he nodded and lifted up his shirt (his normal indication that he wants changed). Then I asked him to bring me a diaper, which I had never done before. Gus walked over to the diaper cupboard in the kitchen and grabbed one off the pile and brought it back to me. Then I asked him to get the wipes. He walked back over to the cupboard and got the wipes out and brought them back to me. I laid him down, amazed at how smart he is getting, and changed him. Then I handed him the dirty diaper and told him to put it in the garbage, just to see what he would do. He gave me another slow, exaggerated nod and started to walk toward the garbage can. As he got closer to it, he became more timid and kept looking back at me. He quickly and softly touched the lid and then pulled his hand back- eyes on me. Then he repeated, and looked at me again. I told him it was okay, to put it in there. He walked back to me and handed me the diaper. I said to him, "You're not supposed to touch the garbage, are you?" He shook his head no (normally he gets time out and/or a pat on the bottom or hand if he touches the garbage).
Can you believe how smart he is getting? Sorry for the long story, but I am just amazed at him sometimes. Such a big boy! I hate to jinx myself, but Gus seems to be interested in potty related issues... Maybe he won't be terribly hard to potty train??? Let's hope- cause I've heard boys are difficult.

Haircut!

To those of you who say you have never seen Gus upset- here you go. Gus screaming at mommy.

Still a very unhappy boy.

Quickly forgot his troubles as he found a fun book to read.

Happy and cute again!

Gus making a mess of his meal, as usual. Good thing we took his shirt off before supper!

We buzzed a bit of Gus's hair on Monday night. His first official haircut I suppose. It is still kinda spiky on top, but we cut off some of the fly-aways on top and took out his wings and long girly hair/mullet that was in the back. When it comes in a little thicker and more consistently all over we will get him an actual haircut from a professional.

Panthers and Monkeys

I look away for one minute and... a monkey is climbing on the computer desk! When I took this Gus didn't know I was watching him...

But once he did know that I was looking, he didn't seem scared of me. In fact, Josh and I both are having a difficult time disciplining the little guy cause he just laughs and laughs at us when we try. Oh boys.

The Panthers are still number one in our eyes!

Decked out in our panther gear for the Iowa/UNI game this morning. Although UNI lost, it was very close, and we are proud of them. And, because we are pretty big Hawkeye fans in this house as well, we were okay with the outcome. Despite the loss, didn't those Panthers look good?!?! That, you cannot deny.
On the home front, Gus is getting so smart! He can respond not only with cow and duck sounds when asked (see video a few posts back), but he knows cat, dog, bear, sheep and horse now too. We work pretty hard with him. He always knows where his head, ear, feet and belly are, and usually knows where his nose, eyes and mouth are too. I am just amazed by him sometimes. This week I have noticed that he will open a book and pretend read it, out loud, like mommy and daddy do. It is so cute.
